With an infectious love of music and performing for music lovers alike, hails Robby & Richard. The duo has been together now for two years but have been playing music together since 2016.
Robby Started learning guitar at 15. He would go on and play in a rock band with some high school friends. From there, he moved to southern rock a few years. He eventually got bit with the bluegrass bug when his best friend took him to a Doc Watson concert. He had spent time playing dobro and upright bass before he gave up both and devoted all of his time time to the 5 string banjo. Robby has played with Milford station bluegrass from 2005 up to the present. When COVID hit in 2020, it killed the bluegrass business. It was at that time he joined forces with his friend and guitar player of Milford station, Richard Yubeta to form the acoustic guitar duo Robby and Richard.
Richard received his first guitar in 6th grade although it wasn’t until 2008 that he started taking lessons. He sang in chorus all through middle and High school, making select groups his sophomore, junior and senior years. He toured with a band all throughout the U.S. Mexico and Canada for 3 years at the age of 21. It was when he Saw Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver at the Richmond folk festival that he found his new musical love, bluegrass music. It wasn’t too long after that he found out about East Tennessee State University and their Bluegrass, Old-Time and Roots music program (Kenny Chesney is one of many high profile musicians to go through the program). He attended for two years and has played in multiple Bluegrass bands ever since. Richard plays guitar, and has spent time learning the Mandolin as well. It all came together when we were playing a gig where we were booked to play bluegrass. At the end of the gig, we kind of sat around and picked country and classic rock tunes to which the party crowd took to exceptionally well, and it was at that point Richard believes, that the duo took flight.
